“A drop in the number of Latino students this year did not surprise Newberg schools Superintendent Paula Radich, but it bothered her all the same.
Radich and Sherwood schools Superintendent Dan Jamison both predicted in the weeks before school started this fall that their districts would lose some of their Latino population.
Jamison was wrong — his district saw a tiny bump in the number of Latino students. But both worry that even as the Latino student population booms across the state, rising housing prices in Newberg and Sherwood make it increasingly difficult for the two districts to hold onto their Latino students.”
