“A Bay Area legislator held a forum in San Jose today to determine what can be done to raise the school performance levels of Latino students. State Senator Elaine Alquist sponsored the Latino Education Issues Forum to address a plan of action to help school districts like the one in Santa Clara County, where over 60 percent of the Latino students are performing below average.

With the Latino population of California rising steadily, Alquist said statistics like those are ever more worrisome. “Down the line 80 percent of our work force is going to be Latino so we need to see that these students are educated and have real opportunity,” said Alquist.”
