“In recognition of outstanding leaders in the Hispanic community, the makers of Crown Royal and LULAC The League of United Latin American Citizens recently honored the 2006 recipients of the Crown Royal Excellence Awards. Developed last year to honor a new generation of exceptional Latinos making a difference in their respective communities, this year’s awards were presented to three citizens in Chicago, Phoenix, and Los Angeles.
All award recipients were nominated by an executive board of LULAC and were selected based on their advocacy and commitment to issues of long standing importance to Latinos. All honorees represent accomplished Latino professionals who are helping to improve the lives of Hispanics early in their careers.
“Crown Royal is proud to honor these individuals whose achievements make Hispanic communities across the U.S. a better place to live,” said Giovanni Sgro, Crown Royal multicultural brand manager. “With these awards we’re recognizing those Latinos who are contributing to the dynamic growth of these cities.”
This year’s award recipients include Martin Cabrera, Jose Rivera, and Yanet Bahena of Chicago; Anna Maria Chavez, Matt Molina and Francisco Heredia of Phoenix; and Aide Castro, Edward Acevedo and Robert Herrera of Los Angeles. Additionally, the makers of Crown Royal provided a $15,000 donation to LULAC to further assist the organization in its mission to advance the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, and health and civil rights of the Hispanic population in the United States.
“We at Crown Royal like these individuals believe in giving back in a meaningful way,” said Sgro. “It is through this type of initiative that we are able to communicate the importance of responsibility.”Each of the award recipients received a custom-made ring crafted by celebrity jewelry designer Michael Spirito of Exhibitionist, NYC. Crown Royal selected Spirito’s crown-shaped design to symbolize distinction as well as to celebrate the leadership exhibited by the deserving honorees.
“Since the organization’s inception, LULAC has worked to advance the quality of life for Latinos through a number of successful programs,” said Elijio Marin, State Director of LULAC Illinois. “We are pleased Crown Royal has taken the initiative to provide the honorees with this unique recognition.”
All Crown Royal Excellence Award recipients were honored in activities held in Chicago on November 14th, Phoenix on November 29th, and in Los Angeles on December 6th.
