Mrs. Rodrí­guez’s legal immigration status has been both a privilege and a burden. Like countless others from Mexico, the largest source of newcomers to this country, Mrs. Rodrí­guez has secured a stable, decent life in the United States with her husband and two children, far better than anything she could have hoped for where she was born.”
