But retirement for Galvan, a 76-year-old Mexican immigrant who became a U.S. citizen in 1986, did not mean a life of leisure. Without retirement savings, Galvan and his wife, Maria Estrella, 75, rely on Medicare, a small Social Security stipend, and money Galvan earns painting houses and helping his sons with their construction business. Their 11 children, including Esteben, 36, help out when they can.”
