“Village residents had a wide range of reactions yesterday to the news that federal officials have filed a lawsuit aimed at forcing an election district system that would increase the likelihood a Hispanic candidate could win a seat on the Board of Trustees.
Out of dozens of residents interviewed yesterday, only a handful were aware that the U.S. Department of Justice has been pressuring the village to address concerns that a municipality where more than 46 percent of the population self-identified as Hispanic in the last census does not have a single Hispanic elected official on its six-member Board of Trustees.”
