“The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce USHCC, the leading advocate for the more than two million Hispanic-owned businesses in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, lauds the Senate for confirming President George W. Bush’s nomination of Jovita Carranza to serve as the U.S. Small Business Administration’s deputy administrator.
“Jovita Carranza is the logical and wise choice to lead the SBA in its pursuit of further growth and success,” said USHCC chairman David C. Lizárraga. “This country rewards honest, diligent work; she brings that along with experience, savvy and a goal-oriented philosophy to this position, and we look forward to working with her and the SBA to help increase the profitability and economic power of the more than two million small and minority-owned businesses in the United States.”
Carranza started with UPS in 1976 and diligently worked her way up to serve as vice president of air operations. Carranza also served as the UPS President of Latin American Operations and the Caribbean. In 2004, she was named National Hispanic Woman of the Year by Hispanic Business Magazine.
“Hers [Carranza] is a story of how diligence and effort produce incredible results, and is an important success story for all to emulate. Latina entrepreneurs and indeed all the nation’s 23 million small business owners can see the results of what can be accomplished if you combine your know-how with hard work,” said USHCC President and CEO Michael L. Barrera. “The USHCC anticipates a continued and long-standing relationship with Ms. Carranza and the SBA as she brings her success in the private sector to the national scene.”
The Senate confirmed Carranza earlier in the day on Saturday after the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship unanimously endorsed her on Wednesday. Several legislators congratulated Carranza on her success and future opportunities.
“It’s impressive. It’s a great story. It’s the way it should work in America,” said Sen. John Kerry D-Mass..
The USHCC actively promotes the economic growth and development of Hispanic entrepreneurs and represents the interests of more than two million Hispanic-owned businesses in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, which earn more than $350 billion annually. It also serves as the umbrella organization for more than 200 local Hispanic chambers nationwide and in Mexico. “
