“Thousands of parishioners, some carrying flowers and others clutching umbrellas, made their way through the muddy and winding lanes of Maryville Academy Monday to pay tribute to the Virgin Mary. The group of Roman Catholics made up one of the largest celebrations of the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, a commemoration of Marys appearance in Tepeyac, near Mexico City, from Dec. 9 to 12, 1531.

Even though the warming weather created muddy conditions at Maryvilles grass parking lot, cars continued to pour in through the evening. Organizers estimate that between 60,000 to 120,000 people will take part in the two-day celebration.”
