Iowans learn to deal with immigration
Tagged: Iowa, ProfessorPosted on: December 7th, 2006“While politicians argue over immigration, community leaders in Iowa and other new “gateway” states are quietly fending for themselves in dealing with problems posed by immigrants, many of whom have limited English and low incomes, a new study shows.
Iowa’s welcoming attitude has cooled over the years, but many Iowans realize immigrants are “absolutely critical to the social and economic health of communities large and small,” said one of the study’s authors, Mark A. Grey, professor of anthropology at the University of Northern Iowa and director of the Iowa Center for Immigrant Leadership and Integration.”
