“Leaders of a fast-growing county outside Atlanta voted Tuesday to join several towns nationwide in passing ordinances to crack down on illegal immigrants, while Nashville leaders delayed voting on a similar measure to make English its official language of government.

Cherokee County, Ga., officials passed an English-only ordinance, as well as other measures to force landlords to check the immigration status of their tenants and have the county join two federal programs targeting illegal immigrants.”
