Migrants learn to help their kids – Arizona

“Parent Institute for Quality Education, or PIQE, is a nine-week course that teaches mostly Spanish-speaking immigrant parents how the state’s public school system works and how to advocate for their child’s education. The California-based program claims success with hundreds of thousands of parents and their children.

“I used to sign without asking,” Romero Perez, 42, said. “Now I question my son about what he learned from the book, what was the theme of the book. Now, I talk to my son about the importance of studying.”"
