“In a ceremony filled with emotion and political symbolism, state Sen. Miguel del Valle (D-Chicago) was sworn in Friday as Chicago’s first-ever Hispanic city clerk.

“This is significant for Latinos in Chicago. It’s another first. People are very, very proud. They consider this ”” not just my individual accomplishment, but an accomplishment for the Latino community. But we didn’t get here overnight. We worked very hard”¦to gain ground and become equal partners in the political process,” said del Valle, 55.”
