All-Hispanic council puts Santa Ana in spotlight – California

Tagged: ,

“Seeing an all-Hispanic City Council take office in the place he’s lived for more than four decades fills Armando Berber with pride.

“It shows we’re moving up,” said Berber, a 65-year-old retiree. “If we’re the majority in Santa Ana, why not have people who represent us?”

While voters, including Berber, said they chose candidates based on campaign promises to fix broken streets and fight crime – not ethnicity – Santa Ana’s recent election has thrust the city into the eye of political organizations seeking to groom more Hispanic leaders for higher office.”
