“Seeing an all-Hispanic City Council take office in the place he’s lived for more than four decades fills Armando Berber with pride.

“It shows we’re moving up,” said Berber, a 65-year-old retiree. “If we’re the majority in , why not have people who represent us?”

While voters, including Berber, said they chose candidates based on campaign promises to fix broken streets and fight – not ethnicity – ’s recent election has thrust the city into the eye of political organizations seeking to groom more Hispanic leaders for higher office.”
