All in the stroke of the hand: Spanish painter and Colombian musicians provide a cultural experience – University of Maryland, Baltimore County

“They come here from different countries but they bring those countries with them. They feel frustrated and lonely at times, but they use these feelings productively. They engage in American culture, but they put their own spin on it. I am talking about the three young artists I met last Friday in the Skylight Room. The Intercultural Living Exchange (ILE) and the Modern Languages and Linguistics (MLL) departments organized an exposition coordinated by Michelle Dudley to present Amparo Latorre Romero, a Spanish painter and sculptor, and Juan and Santiago DeAngulo, talented Colombian musicians.

The event, conducted in Spanish, started with Romero giving a talk about nine of her paintings thumb tacked to the wall, and followed by the DeAngulo brothers playing a medley of somber and lively tunes from Colombia and Brazil on their violin and guitar.”
