“Nine years later, an outgrowth of that effort is the nonprofit Casa de Amistad, Centro de Enseñanza, which has recruited 80 tutors to help 140 Latino students in kindergarten through 12th grade each Tuesday and Thursday evening for $15 a year.

Some children, who live in Solana Beach and surrounding communities, don’t speak English. Many come from meager financial circumstances, and some must balance homework with long hours of after-school employment to help their families pay for food and rent.”
