“More than 200 people attended yesterday’s meeting, which was presented by Virginia Commonwealth University’s Center on Health Disparities, School of World Studies and Office for Language and Cultural Competence. The meeting was at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.

Discussions focused on language and cultural barriers, legal and policy issues and health disparities in areas such as diabetes and HIV infection rates. Many of those attending were health-care providers who are seeing a growing number of Hispanic patients. Hispanics have become the nation’s largest ethnic minority about 14.5 percent of the U.S. population.”
