Wrong approach: Isolated punitive actions against undocumented workers by cities and states are no substitute for a comprehensive national policy | Chron.com – Houston Chronicle

“Houston City Council has had heated debates over whether police should enforce immigration laws, but the rhetoric was mild compared to what erupted when a Dallas suburb, Farmers Branch, decided to launch its own fight against illegal immigrants.

Six council members unanimously voted to declare English the official language of Farmers Branch, banned landlords from renting to illegals and empowered local police to arrest undocumented residents. Their action produced a chilling vision of widespread civil discord if Congress cannot produce a consensus plan for securing the nation’s borders and realistically dealing with the status of an estimated 12 million undocumented workers and their dependents already rooted here.”
