Music, grandparents connect her to Mexican roots

Tagged: ,

“I’m not quite Mexican, not quite white, and anything else would be a lie.

I’m very much American. American, to me, implies a thousand different things, mixed together. A melting pot.

I know a few other kids of mixed heritage, and it seems everyone relates to it differently. Even within my own group of siblings, my little sister and brother, we all exhibit who we are in different ways. At different volumes, I guess you could say. Mine is always fairly low, my sister maybe a bit higher, and my brother constantly changing, dependent upon who he is around. None of us speaks fluent Spanish, but that’s hardly a gauge for our respect of our Mexican side of the family.”
