“Dominicans may be No. 2 in New York’s politically powerful Hispanic hierarchy, but there’s one vital element even the mighty Puerto Ricans must turn to them for - food.

Bodegas owned by Dominicans, who now number more than a half-million in the five boroughs, feed Latino New York.

There are nearly 13,000 Hispanic bodegas in the city, almost all of them owned by Dominicans, according to the Washington Heights-based Bodega Association of the United States.”
