United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Welcomes Mexican President Elect Felipe Calderón Hinojosa on his First Official Visit to the United States

“The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), the largest and most influential advocate for the nation’s two million Hispanic-owned businesses is honored to welcome Mexican President-Elect, Felipe Calderón Hinojosa on his first official visit to the United States. As part of this official welcome, the USHCC joined by The Latino Coalition and leading national Hispanic organazitions hosted a luncheon in honor of President-elect Calderón to learn more about his vision for integration and building closer economic, political and cultural ties between the U.S. and Mexico.

“We are honored that President-elect Calderón chose to meet with leaders of our Hispanic community on his first official visit to the United States,” said David C. Lizárraga, USHCC Chairman of the Board. “We look forward to working with President-elect Calderón and his administration on important issues such as immigration, free trade, small businesses growth, and economic and entrepreneurial exchanges – all critical to the continued growth and prosperity of our nations. We also join President-elect Calderón in his call to build strong bridges that unite and not walls that divide our two nations.”

“The election of a new President in Mexico and a change of leadership in the U.S. Congress, signals a historic moment in the long-standing relation between the United States and Mexico,” said Michael L. Barrera, USHCC President & CEO. “President-elect Calderón’s vision on hemispheric economic integration is very much aligned with the goals of the USHCC to expand business to business exchanges and with Mexico and the rest of Latin America.. As the largest and most influential Hispanic business organization in the country, it is an honor and a privilege to host this important leader in his first trip to the U.S. as the President-elect of Mexico.”

In January 2006, a delegation headed by USHCC President & CEO. Michael L. Barrera and members of the Board of Directors held a commerce and trade misison to Mexico City where they had a unique opportunity to hear from then candidate Felipe Calderón about his vision and comprehensive plan for building a stronger U.S-Mexico integration and a closer economic partnership between the people of Mexico and the United States.

A USHCC delegation headed by Chairman of the Board, David C. Lizárraga, President & CEO, Michael L. Barrera and members of the Board of Directors are expected to attend Mexico’s Presidential inauguration in early December. “
