Knowledge is Power!

“Susana Baca, the internationally renowned Afro-Peruvian singer, is at work in a Chicago rehearsal studio, chasing away the chill as she moves sinuously to strings and percussion, including the rattle made from the skull of a burro.

A petite woman with a beatific smile, Baca is wearing a black tunic, footless black tights and several pieces of elegant silver jewelry. And she displays the easy grace of a natural-born dancer as she works her way through “Mi Corazon Negro” (”My Black Heart”), a new work by choreographer Eduardo Vilaro, artistic director of Luna Negra Dance Theater, the Chicago-bred contemporary dance troupe with a Latino soul.”
