Hispanic Candidates Claim Election Victories

“While results from Tuesday’s midterm elections have been hailed as a triumph for Democrats, who gained control of the House of Representatives and may take control of the U.S. Senate, Hispanic candidates across the nation also benefited.

The highest-profile victory by a Hispanic candidate was New Jersey incumbent Robert Menendez’s win over Republican state Sen. Thomas Kean Jr. That race, which grew increasingly ugly as neither candidate could establish a definitive lead, saw the Kean camp level corruption charges at Mr. Menendez, a Cuban-American appointed to fill the balance of John Corzine’s senate term when Mr. Corzine won election as the Garden State’s governor.”
