Fence can’t cover all those holes in policy

“And it almost makes sense in a shallow kind of way. If you want people to stay away from your house, you put up some chain link and maybe get a 120-pound Rottweiler with an irritable disposition. But the U.S.-Mexico border is not a backyard, and a look at the legislation’s shortcomings suggests that the border fence is just a flashy exercise in politics that’s doomed to failure.

It’s a splashy, made-for-television “solution,” a political strategy more than an effective remedy. An effective solution would take into account the reasons illegal immigrants cross the border, poverty in Mexico and the fact that it apparently takes them about five minutes to get jobs in the United States.”
