“In Avon, 40 percent of the population is Hispanic, according to Census numbers from 2000. But none of the town’s council members are Hispanic.

Juan Martinez said he’s not sure if that’s a problem, but things would be better if there were Hispanic representatives on the board.

“You’re not really being represented if there aren’t Hispanics on the boards,” said Martinez, an Avon resident. “They don’t really understand the issues that the Hispanic community is going through now.”"
