“The distinguished Mexican poet Pura López Colomé will give a reading on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 4:30 p.m. in the Robert A. Jones ‘59 House. The reading is sponsored by the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference and the Middlebury College Creative Writing Program, Rohatyn Center for International Affairs, Department of Latin American Studies, Department of Spanish, and Ross Commons. The event is free and open to the public.
Pura López Colomé, born in Mexico City in 1952, is one of her generation’s most significant poets. Since the 1980s, she has been a frequent contributor to magazines and newspapers in Mexico and has published seven volumes of poetry, including “Tragaluz de noche” (Fondo de Cultura Económico) and “MÚsica inaudita: Poesia 1985-2000″ (Verdehalago, 2002). “No Shelter,” a selection of her poems translated into English by Forrest Gander, was published by Graywolf Press in 2002. “
