State Rep. Arza should resign to spare colleagues an expulsion vote - Florida

“”It is my sincere hope that Arza will resign from the House and avoid further damage that will come by putting his friends and colleagues in the position of formally passing judgment on his conduct,” Goodlette wrote to House Speaker Allan Bense, who ordered the investigation. Gov. Jeb Bush and other legislators have already called for Arza’s resignation.

Arza has admitted leaving the message on the voice mail of Rep. Gus Barreiro, R-Miami Beach, earlier this month, but said he was drunk. Arza had learned Barreiro had filed a complaint alleging he had earlier used a racial epithet when referring to Miami-Dade County school superintendent Rudy Crew, who is black. He used the same epithet in his phone message to Barreiro, who is Hispanic, but it was unclear who it was directed at.”
