“When the five-piece Mexican rock-tronica outfit Kinky was recording its latest album, “Reina,” the band members became entrenched in the studio ”” literally. A mudslide rolled right through the back door of the new Southern California cabin where they were laying down tracks.

Natural disaster, though, didn’t stop the group from making its most infectious collection of songs, as the band’s third release features percussive Latin rhythms with indie rock riffs and vintage synthesizer vamps. The disc even gets a little vocal help from Men at Work’s Colin Hay. Kinky brings the dance party to Asheville for a Halloween bash at The Orange Peel. Ahead of the show, keyboardist Ulises Lozano explained how Kinky grooves.”
