“Prime Minister Stephen Harper offered cautious moral support Thursday to his Mexican counterpart, who is reeling from an American move to erect more than 1,000 kilometres of fence along the southern U.S. border.

President-elect Felipe Calderon was facing one of the biggest issues of his mandate on the same day he began a visit to Canada. U.S. President George Bush signed the “secure fence bill” in a Washington ceremony, an exercise designed to boost Republican fortunes in the border states before congressional elections next month.”
