Democratic U.S. Rep. Silvestre Reyes considered to head House intelligence committee

“Democratic U.S. Rep. Silvestre Reyes, a veteran and former Border Patrol sector chief, could find himself in charge of one of the most important committees in the House if Democrats take the majority in the upcoming election.

Reyes is being considered as a possible chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, a Democratic aide confirmed Tuesday. The aide said he’s one of several under consideration, but wouldn’t say how many other members are in the running.

His appointment would be significant for Texas because no other Democrats from the state have enough seniority to move into a committee chairmanship.”
