“The California Latino Legislative Caucus Institute for Public Policy (CLCI), best known for its focus on leadership development, is celebrating its 5th Anniversary this year with an extraordinary Gala, “A Journey With Giants,” on October 27. The event will honor State Senator Nell Soto, TELACU’s President and CEO David Lizarraga and Galpin Ford’s President Bert Boeckmann with the Institute’s El Angel Awards. And, in recognition of a lifetime of pioneering public service, CLCI is presenting the “Torch Award” posthumously to the late U.S. Congressman Edward R. Roybal. Roybal’s daughter, U.S. Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard, will be accepting the “Torch” on her father’s behalf at the Gala.
“The Institute has covered a lot of important ground in its first five years,” said Sen. Richard G. Polanco, chair of the Institute. “During this time, we have established a nationally recognized public policy fellowship, which now has 24 Fellows. In partnership with DaimlerChrysler, we have created the first-ever Elected Officials Academy to train newly elected municipal and county officials in the ethics and mechanics of government. And, we have launched the Madrinas/Padrinos, a Southern California-based professional leadership network. The Board has done a superb job and we are grateful for the ongoing support of our Corporate Advisory Board. We look forward to the next five years as we continue to highlight those policy issues that matter to California and to the nation. We have just begun to make our mark.” “
