“With the wave of Hispanic workers after Hurricane Katrina taking shape as a long-term migration, the Mexican government is moving closer to reopening a consulate in New Orleans, a Mexican official said Friday during a visit to the city.

Bosco Marti, director general for North American affairs in the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said he is confident officials will appropriate money for a New Orleans office during Mexico’s budgeting process in December.”
