IMMIGRATION MATTERS: A Wild-Eyed Gamble with the GOP’s Future

Their decision to instead whip up anti-immigrant sentiments is a simple, cynical political calculation – in a bad year they need passion to turn out their political base.

The Speaker used the September 11 anniversary to excoriate immigrant terrorists, illegal immigrant gang members and Democratic leaders in almost the same breath. Ostensibly nonpartisan, taxpayer-funded “Get Tough’ House Hearings this summer were targeted to political swing districts like the 7th in Aurora, Colorado.”
