Mexico trip expands ministry - North Carolina

“Pender, who’s been pastor at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church for 17 years, spent eight weeks in Mexico this summer learning Spanish so he could better communicate with this quickly growing segment of our community.

Through a competitive grant from the Eli Lily Foundation, Pender, 50, along with his wife, Sheri, and daughters Amy, 19, and Julia, 16, lived with a Mexican family in Cuernavaca (south of Mexico City) and attended language immersion school five days a week.”
