“Turning a Spanish-speaking club bilingual was a compromise its members weren’t eager to make, but it might have been its only chance to stay open.

Over the past two years, the Sociedad Protección Mutua de Trabajadores Unidos became bilingual. The society, one of the West’s oldest Hispanic organizations, has about 500 members in New Mexico and Colorado and 72 members in Nambé, its biggest chapter.”
