“‘We are aware that these immigrants have not followed the law to get to United States and we do not condone that in any way.”

The resolution the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce proposed to Allentown City Council does not, in any way, excuse illegal activity. In fact, we propose that the federal government find a solution, and find it quickly, for the problem of unsecured borders. But, it should also find, just as quickly, solutions for those immigrants who are here and able to supply the insatiable demand that exists for ready labor. With only 4 percent unemployment in the United States, a rate that is as low as it can get, there is effectively no unemployment, even with 12 million undocumented immigrants here. So, we fail to see the ”urgency” in spending our local tax dollars and energy on this non-issue.”
