“What gives Boston Ballet’s production of “Don Quixote” its particularly Spanish flavor? Perhaps it’s the fact that many dancers of Hispanic origin have found their way into the upper ranks of the company.
When the Ballet opens its 43rd season tomorrow night with Rudolf Nureyev’s dazzling reworking of the comic Russian ballet, the audience will see that more than half its principal dancers (and many dancers in the lower ranks) come from Spanish-speaking countries. Most hail from Cuba, where ballet training has strong roots in the Russian school, while others come from Argentina and Colombia - or, like Yury Yanowsky, grew up in Spain.”
