“People point to the Hispanic community ”” which grew by 62 percent between 2000 and 2005 ”” when talking about the Treasure Coast’s increasing diversity. But the Hispanic population itself is a diverse group of people.

Treasure Coast residents come from more than 20 different Spanish-speaking countries, according to the 2000 U.S. Census.

About half of the Treasure Coast’s Hispanic population are Mexicans. However, people from South America now represent about 10 percent of the Hispanic community ”” up from just 5 percent in 2000.”
