“Since crossing the Rio Grande with her husband and two children near Nuevo Laredo 10 years ago, Teresa Carbajal’s life has been about blending two cultures and two lifestyles.

On Sunday, she and other local Hispanics celebrated their dual identity at the 60th annual St. Francis Catholic Church Fiesta de la Raza.

Even as the national debate on immigration continues to be a hot topic raised by political candidates, government leaders, and community organizations, many local Hispanics believe it is important to continue displaying pride in their heritage.”
