“Martha’s involvement with Loyola Marymount University began 30 years ago when she was accepted as a freshman, the first in her family to attend a four-year university program. After graduating in 1978 with a bachelor of science in accounting, Martha became a CPA and audit manager while working at Ernst & Young. A few years later she founded El Clasificado, a publication whose mission is to create bridges that strengthen and empower the Hispanic community. Working with the Hispanic community for many years increased Martha’s awareness of how important education is for young Latinos, and in 2000, Martha decided to become more involved with her alma mater as a member of the MAAA (Mexican American Alumni Association) Board of Directors. Over the past 25 years LMU’s MAAA has awarded over $1.5 million in scholarships.

Martha serves on the board of Los Angeles Child Guidance Clinic, Los Angeles County Education Foundation, Don Bosco Technical Institute and LMU’s MAAA. In 2006, Hispanic Magazine awarded Martha with the highly coveted Entrepreneur Award. Other accolades include: Hispanic Business Woman of the Year by U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, finalist as Entrepreneur of the Year sponsored by Ernst & Young and Small Business Person of the Year presented by the SBA. “
