“One of the underlying arguments of illegal immigration is that it costs this country too much money: too much money in educating and providing medical care to undocumented immigrants and too much money in lost wages to citizens who could easily do the jobs done by the undocumented. (Of course, whether or not citizens would really do these jobs is another debate entirely.)
This week’s legislation signed into law by President Bush provides $33.8 billion to pay for, among other things, the border fence and all the high-tech gadgetry it will take to get control of illegal immigration.”
