El Grupo VIDA — an exercise of love – Denver, Colorado

“El Grupo VIDA ( Venciendo Incapacidades y Desabilidades con Amor- Overcoming Handicaps and Disabilities with Love) is a grassroots organization which has been in existence throughout the metro Denver area, but primarily, Denver, since 1989. It was then that two moms, Maria Castillo and Ellie Valdez Honeyman, founded the group so that families whose primary language was Spanish, and had children with disabilities or special health care needs, could receive the benefits from information and training in their primary and best “learning” language. Their hope was that these families could also network with other families that might be in a similar situation, thereby minimizing the feelings of isolation that often accompany having a child with a disability or special health care need. “
