“Today at a reception at the 2006 Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Public Policy Conference in Washington, DC., Allstate Insurance Company and the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) awarded 12 Hispanic youth leaders with a Líderes de Hoy academic scholarship. In its second year, the national essay contest recognized six high school and six college scholars. For each category, one grand prize winner received a one-time scholarship of $10,000. The other five winners in each category received a one-time award of $5,000. Marco Davis, Director of Leadership Development for NCLR and Deborah Pickford, Corporate Relations Manager from Allstate, among others, recognized the winners for their extraordinary achievements and commitment to their community.
“Allstate, together with the National Council of La Raza, is proud once again to sponsor this contest and provide scholarships to young Hispanic leaders in our communities,” said Deborah Pickford. “The Líderes de Hoy national essay contest is helping young Latinos reach their career goals. We want to help inspire youth to become active leaders in their communities as they continue their education and begin to enter the workforce. Through the Líderes de Hoy national essay contest, Allstate and NCLR are helping to provide Latino youth with access to the resources and training needed to become successful leaders.” “
