GOP chief wants probe of Sen. Menendez’s political ties - New Jersey

“State Republicans called Friday for the attorney general to investigate the dealings of U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., and his close political ally who was secretly recorded using Menendez’s name to pressure a Hudson County psychiatrist to hire a doctor.

Though Menendez said this week his friend Donald Scarinci was not authorized to use his name in 1999 when he tried to pressure psychiatrist Oscar Sandoval to hire a doctor through a contract he had with Hudson County, New Jersey Republican State Committee Chairman Tom Wilson questioned why Menendez waited until the story garnered large media attention before severing campaign ties with Scarinci. The recordings by an FBI informant were acknowledged in court filings and published reports in the spring.”
