Profile America - Saturday, September 30th. As the nation’s population of Hispanic origin grows, so does its role in the nation’s economy. In a recent five-year period, the number of Hispanic-owned firms grew by almost one-third, to a total of nearly 1.6-million - a rate three times thenational average. The fastest rate of growth for Hispanic-owned businesses was seen in New York, Rhode Island and Georgia, followed by Nevada and South Carolina. Nationwide, firms owned by Hispanics generated some 222-billion dollars in revenue in a year. Among these businesses, more than 29-thousand had annual receipts of a million dollars or more.
