“Latinos in the United States have reason to rejoice over a recent report that shows they have lower-than-average rates for most cancers. But researchers say factors that could be driving up rates on some forms of cancer among Latinos are language and cultural barriers, as well as socio-economic status.

Because Latinos as a group tend to wait longer before going to a doctor, they tend to be diagnosed later, after cancers may have spread, making recovery more difficult from the more treatable forms of the disease - for example, cancers of the colon, prostate and cervix, according to researchers. “
