Mujeres Universitarias Associadas Offers Professional Support to Latina Faculty at the University of Central Florida

“Maria de Jesus Gonzalez has an important job as an assistant professor of the arts at the University of Central Florida. But just as important, she says, is her position as a role model for young Hispanic women.

Like many of those she tries to inspire, she’s learning her way around as a young faculty member applying for tenure. When she began preparing in 2001, she talked to a few friends on campus about the process and how to start. Mujeres Universitarias Associadas (University Women Associated) grew out of these discussions with other Latina professors who had recently obtained tenure or were on their way to doing so.”
