“Hispanic enrollment in college has increased over the years, keeping pace with the group’s population boom. And as these students have struggled to find their way in academia they have also discovered a need to carve a Greek niche that complimented their cultural roots.

“I was from Texas and was pretty used to everyone being Latino around me. In Indiana, it was culture shock,” said Annette Soto, a 2005 graduate of Indiana University and Gamma Phi Omega member. “I never thought of myself as a minority. I was looking for people who could relate to me like my family did.” “
