“”No human being is illegal,” Christine said as she began her presentation. The crowd was about half white, half Hispanic. She reminded us that of the 104 million residents of Mexico, 54 million live in poverty. Low-income people in Mexico earn $1 to $2 a day. According to Christine, since the beginning of NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement), poverty has increased leaving many out of work. Small and medium-sized businesses have been eliminated due to big firms like Wal-Mart.”
