“Jonathan Encarnacion would prefer that the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s annual convention be held here in Reading, but he’ll settle for Philadelphia.

He’s half-joking, of course, but there’s some logic to the idea.

“I think the reason why they selected Philadelphia is because they’re beginning to see how the Latino community has grown in the Northeast,” said Encarnacion, executive director of the Hispanic Center, 501 Washington St.”
