Judgment could help Hispanics gain clout – Osceola County, Florida

Tagged: ,

“U.S. District Judge Gregory A. Presnell, in what he described as “the sense of my thinking,” said Wednesday that he likely will require a majority-Hispanic district centered on Buenaventura Lakes as part of his ruling on the Osceola County voting-rights suit. The county would have to draw up new districts within 30 days of his formal ruling.

The Hispanic community has different opinions on the issue.

“I am so elated, I asked my wife to pinch me just to make sure I was not dreaming,” said Armando Ramirez, an ardent supporter of a switch back to single-member voting in Osceola.”
